About design templates

hi commons. i wish it would be better to share your thoughts on deisgning templates for our fsftn promotion works.

standarised design aspects bring us unique identity .

so it will be better to have a creative unique design concepts .

@manojpenworks can you be more specific on what standardization you are trying to bring in? Is it the font of the heading or logo or anything else?

Agreed, you can start with a minimal proposal and share others can comment and make it better collaboratively.

I hope we can start with a fixed Font for “Free Software Foundation Tamil Nadu” and “FSFTN”.

The font should be in Public domain. We should not / must not use Proprietary fonts.

thanks. i will come up with a public proposal soon.

i think mozilla would be one of the familiar example . which had flat vector designs, meta font pack, vector icons, sub-logos(thimble,MDN mozilla air etc) … like that .
i will come back soon with proposal on this .

can we prefer OFL (SIL Open Font License)…or only CC-BY…

ji… which kind of license for fonts to be preferred…

Tried to read through the OFL 1.1, which says

The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves.

I assume it covers the 4 freedoms of Free Software. There shouldn’t be a problem for using OFL.
CC is also fine but they might have some rights reserved.

then we will choose OFL …which are apt for our works.

i found these 3 font styles out of which one will be suitable for all needs: title,content,flash,comment,sub-title etc.

  1. league gothic: https://www.theleagueofmoveabletype.com/league-gothic
    license:: OFL
  2. chunks: https://www.theleagueofmoveabletype.com/chunk
    license : OFL
  3. Hattori Hanzo: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Hattori-Hanzo
    license : CC-attribution 3.0.
i prefer league gothic which had professional and bold look. also we can play around a lot in it.

second is chunk which had round look which will be legible and bold too. :

here is a tree in which we can design logos, templates for every elements in this doodle.

waiting for suggestions .

(doodle using “my paint” : free digital painting tool).

@manojpenworks hats off to your work in making this tree  Regarding the font, I prefer league gothic. It look both professional and stylish. Chunks looks too professional.

thanks  any suggestions over doodle elements to include/exclude…

if font and elements (in fsftn tree) are finalised… then it will be easy to prepare design logos and templates etc.
