Meet Briar - A Free software for peer to peer encrypted messaging


Briar is a messaging app designed for activists,Briaralists, and anyone else who needs a safe, easy and robust way to communicate. Unlike traditional messaging tools such as email, Twitter or Telegram, Briar doesn’t rely on a central server - messages are synchronized directly between the users’ devices. If the Internet’s down, Briar can sync via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, keeping the information flowing in a crisis. If the Internet’s up, Briar can sync via the Tor network, protecting users and their relationships from surveillance.

Call for Translating Briar to your native Language

No binaries are available for download Briar from their site till now. I cloned the code and built the apk which you can get from here. This application is similar to how Rumble / Murmur works, i.e delay tolerant messaging along with anonymity (via Tor), additional options like Forums. Moreover desktop application is also planned and some progress can also be found in the repository.


Now it is time to finally meet Briar which does work completely peer-to-peer without the need for servers and is all about protecting your metadata. It is fully Free Software and utilizes end-to-end encryption with forward secrecy.
