Scary developments in IT Act

#1

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (Meity) has proposed amendments to the IT Act, which require breaking of encryption and automation of censorship by companies through legalized mass surveillance.

However, Meity has invited public opinions until Jan 31, 2019.

Just like we would expect a doctor or a civil engineer to work towards the public good, as people who use, build & understand technology it becomes our responsibility to educate the masses about the ill effects of technology.

What we need to do?

  1. Spread awareness about these changes.
  2. Express our dissent to Meity by emailing them to not make companies / “intermediaries” the guardians / censor of our culture and free speech.
  3. Conduct email / signature campaigns to demand a strong data protection bill (refer to saveourprivacy.in )
